Geez, navigating the internet for a detox plan has never been so confusing. So many diets, plans and overpriced programs to help you detox. But did you know that our body is naturally equipped to detox when given the right circumstances? Yup! We have all our detoxification pathways inbuilt.
So why do we need to detox? Well, with western living we often overload our bodies with so much that our detoxification pathways can’t keep up. You know, that cheeky wine at the end of the day.
Plus, more often than not, people are also walking around with gut issues, which means that the toxins that your body has just attempted to clear are getting reabsorbed.

Signs that your body may be struggling to eliminate toxins:
- Mental fog
- Fatigue
- Headaches
- Skin issues
- Acne
- Hormonal imbalances
- Waking up around 1-3am
- Intolerance to alcohol (the exaggerated hangover)
- Constipation and other gut issues
- Weight gain
- and so much more
Maybe you aren’t experiencing any of these symptoms (lucky you). But you are seeking a well-balanced detox plan because you heard it was good for you. Well, you are right. Detoxing the body is an excellent way for you to support your health.
Is there such a thing as the perfect detox plan?
The answer here is a straight-up NO. There is no such thing as the perfect detox plan because everyone detoxes slightly different. Plus, everyone’s lifestyle and diet are somewhat different from one another. That is why there is no such thing as the “one fits all” perfect detox plan.
So how do we do it?
First things first, we need to find out whether all your detoxification channels are working effectively. This is a crucial step to doing a well-balanced detox. Is your gut healthy? How are your gallbladder and liver working? Do they need support? How well are your kidneys and bladder functioning? Lastly, how well is your skin detoxing?
Suppose any of these eliminatory pathways are sluggish, and you start a detox program before optimising their function. The detox program could do more harm than good. How frustrating, right! I bet you are thinking, “oh, but I don’t have time for this. I just want to get this detox started”. I’m with you here. I can be impatient too.
But if you want to rid yourself of those crappy symptoms, potentially lose some weight and regain your mental clarity, then you have to do it right.
A shitty detox program can slow your thyroid down, cause weight gain down the track, increase your fatigue and potentially cause fatty liver disease later.
So the trick is to found out how your detoxification pathways are working through an extensive evaluation (through a 1:1 consultation) and potentially some pathology tests to be sure. Once the results for these are back, then we can get started.
Optimising all channels of elimination and then moving into an individualised detox plan that suits your particular needs.

The lead up to a detox is just as important.
Leading up to detox is just as important as the detox. The idea behind a detox is to clear the body of built-up toxins and reset your elimination pathways. Suppose you don’t prepare your body for detox and go from 0 to 100. In that case, you are shocking your body, reducing the efficacy of the detox. So sadly, you can’t have that cheeky wine the day before you detox or, in fact, two weeks before your detox.
What can I do straight after a detox?
Weaning off a detox is also crucial for your gut healing. If you do a detox and then go straight to that birthday party you have pencilled in your calendar, then once again, you’ll likely do more harm than good. This is why it is super important to choose your detox time. You know that saying “timing is of the essence”. Now, if you’re a busy mama like me, I am sure you are now rolling your eyes. You want to get this detox started. Yet, the beautiful thing about planning your detox is that it can also become a time to go inward and reflect. You come out the other side feeling mentally and physically renewed.
So are you ready to join me this Spring?
